History of the Southern District Convocation – Henderson

The Southern District Convocation – Henderson (SDC-H) was established in 1977 following a pivotal shift within the United Holy Church of America, Inc. That year, the original Southern District Convocation, headquartered in Goldsboro, North Carolina, separated from the national body. In response, a group of faithful churches chose to remain with the denomination and reorganized under a new name and structure: the Southern District Convocation – Henderson.

Although the administrative leadership had changed, this newly organized district remained spiritually rooted in the legacy of the original Southern District. As affirmed by Bishop Elroy Lewis, the Henderson district continued to observe the original convocation date established by the Southern District out of Goldsboro—maintaining its historical rhythm of worship, fellowship, and service to the Body of Christ.

The first convocation held under the newly formed Southern District Convocation – Henderson took place in September 1979, at Holy Temple United Holy Church in Henderson, NC. Though 1979 marked the beginning of a new administrative era, the district proudly counted its convocation observances from the original Southern District’s founding in 1894. In 2025, the Southern District Convocation – Henderson joyfully celebrates its 131st annual convocation, recognizing the unbroken continuity of spiritual dedication and Holiness tradition.

Grounded in Pentecostal doctrine, spiritual excellence, and strong leadership, the Southern District Convocation – Henderson continues to honor its past while embracing the future, remaining committed to the work, worship, and witness of the United Holy Church of America, Inc.
